Don't pass this one by......
The initial idea was to put the girlfriend on the backseat and do a ride of approximately 3 weeks that would take us from the Northwest (Victoria, BC) through Kentucky, Virginia and home. The revised plan happened when the GF could not get the 3 weeks off so it became a solo trip. The first eight days of the trip delivered: hail the size of "catseye marbles", temperatures of 33 degrees F, snow and a shivering exercise that I'll never forget. Considering all of that; the worst was yet to come. About 13 miles west of Sheridan, Wyoming my bike's drive belt decided it no longer wanted to be part of this trip so it shred itself from the bike. At 2:30pm I'm in the emergency lane of I-90 trying to converse with an agent from Road America regarding a tow. Before the conversation ends my cell phone dies; hopefully I gave her enough information. After an hour and a 1/2, a lady driving an SUV unbelievably stops. Her name is Kelly and once she confirms the information that I gave her with Road America, she allows me to sit in her car. (The wind was blowing about 30mph and the temp. was about 40 degrees.)Now here's the good part; Kelly knows the owner of the tow truck company that Road America called - she phones him directly, yes a tow truck has been dispatched, she is a rider and offers me a local mechanic's name as opposed to being towed to Gillette. (Apparently; Gillette HD does not have a shining reputation with the local populace). I accept her advice and have the tow truck driver deliver my bike to OMG Performance in Sheridan. Meanwhile, Kelly is on the phone contacting Jamey to ensure he's at OMG when we arrive. I speak with Bob, Jamey's assistant, and I am impressed with his answers to my questions. Jamey arrives and he has the appearance of a guy who can fix anything. I only have to speak with him for 5 minutes to know he is an experienced well versed mechanic and is HD certified. At this point; Kelly turns down a dinner out and asks that I only pass on the favour. Jamey, Bob and Aaron work on my bike over the course of the next 3 days. Not only did they install a new drive belt and pulleys but also fixed "engine work" done previously by other "certified HD mechanics". I visited and was welcomed at Jamey shop morning, afternoon and night and was shown by Jamey what had to be done, what was previously done wrong and what was left to be done. Jamey initialing quoted 3 days to do the work, the work was completed on day 3. No surprises, no arguments and GREAT WORKMANSHIP. This is my attempt at "passing on the favour" per Kelly's request. If your in the Sheridan WY neighbourhood and need any work done, drop by and speak with Jamey at OMG. You'll be glad you did. And if you think about it; maybe you'll pass on the favour. Oh and by the way - tell him that Greg, that crazy Canuck, sent you.
