Default Check my route for me- NH to MD

Planning a trip to NY/VT/NH soon and have it all mapped out. Zero interstates.

Trying to figure the "going home" leg of the trip from Jackson NH back to Maryland.

I think I have a good route, but would appreciate any input from those of you familiar with the roads up that way.

Here is my anticipated route:

302 through N. Conway to 16 to 113 to 25 to 3 to 202 to 9 through Keene to 7 in Bennington.

7 through the edge of Mass to the corner of Conn. (we were just going to go straight over to 22 out of VT but we wanted to check Mass and Conn off our list)

Pick up 44 in N. Canaan through Poughkeepsie (I think 44 and 55 run together west of there?

to 9W back up to 44

44 to 209 down to the Susquehanna river then 22 up to 15 and I can get home from there.

Whatcha' think?

BTW, I have 2 days to do this.

Good to go....Going your way in July...taking the Taconic State Pkwy into Newburgh, then over to 209. If this helps?

That looks like a little bit of a time saver, I'll keep Taconic in the holster if needed.

That way means I would have to get on I-84 for a while, and we are really determined to never hit an Interstate on this 8 day trip. So far, I think I have it done.

Have you ridden 209? If so, how is it?

15 is not a super slab, but gets busy and congested from Carlisle PA to Frederick MD----209 can be a lot of stop and go----all sounds like a great ride tho

Enjoy hope you have great weather

I live in southern Dutchess County, right off of Rte 22, and ride to Bennington all the time. There are some spots on Rte 7 where there will be a little traffic (Berkshire Mtns and Pittsfiled Mass) but it is a nice ride. A good portion of Rte 7 runs along the Housatonic River and it is a beautiful ride. I would suggest that you stay on rte 7 until Gaylordsville, Ct. Depending on the time of day you could stop in Kent, Ct for coffee/lunch or you could stop in Wngdale NY for BBQ at Big W BBQ. Kent is about 10 miles north of Gaylordsville on Rte 7.

If you decide to stay on Rte 7 until Gaylordsville, Ct you would take Ct 55 which becomes NY 55. At the end of 55 (about 7 miles) turn left until you see Pleasant Ridge rd/Country Highway 21 (about 3/4 mile). Make a right at the Mobil station which crosses over Rte 22. If you want BBQ take a left on Rte 22 for about 3 miles. If not continue on Pleasant Ridge Rd/County Hwy-21 toward S Chippawalla Rd. Continue to follow County Hwy-21. Enter next roundabout and take the 3rd exit onto County Hwy-9. Turn slight left onto State Route 82/NY-82. Continue to follow NY-82. Stay straight to go onto Route 82/NY-82. Route 82/NY-82 becomes NY-52 to Rte 9. Then it is up to you to figure out the rest of your ride.

Looks good to me. We bailed onto 44 to 22 in CT as well years ago when wanting to just touch the state :-) Here is a route possibility for Carlisle you could manipulate a bit by reversing it though you likely know that area better than me anyway.
Work your way over to Carlisle, and go up 74, to 75, to 22 west for a mile. Then 35 to 235 to 522 to Selinsgrove, and pick up 15 again. Up in Allenwood, you can get 44 north, or you can stay on 15, and 15's a nice ride all the way to Corning NY. OR, 15 to 80, 80 east for a mile to 180 west, to 220 north. 220 North's a great ride all the way to 17/86 near Waverly NY.

Enjoy the ride!!! That is a good size two day run.

Just wanted to thank you for the Taconic Pkwy tidbit you put in my brain.

We were running behind schedule coming home Friday and were on 44 when I saw the sign for Taconic and remembered your tip. Made a U-turn and jumped on it. Took it down to I-84 and that was the first Interstate we hit the entire trip.

We ended up doing 2047.8 miles in 8 days and riding in MD, PA, NY, VT, NH, ME, MASS, and CONN.

Lake Placid area, Whiteface Mountain, Ausable area, Lake Champlain, Rt. 100 in VT. and a bunch of covered bridges in VT and NH, Kancamangus highway, Bear Notch, Mt. Washington, Cathedral Ledge, Portland Head Lighthouse in Maine, and so on.

Was an amazing trip, and we only hit rain twice for about a total of 3-4 hours and it was a very manageable rain with our suits on. All off the Interstates until the last hour of Friday and then on Saturday we just wanted to get home and we sucked it up and did 5 hours on the Interstates to get home.

Thanks all for the tips and suggestions. If anyone needs some now, I think I qualify...LOL.
