Make sure it is easy to toggle the heated jacket on and off as you don't want to be fumbling with the switches at speed.
Here is how I stay warm on big mile cold days. I layer... On top...A ski base layer, a sweater or long sleeved shirt , a heated jacket liner, (I will wear the sweater over the liner on really cold days), on really, really cold days, I have a Down Jacket on next (this doubles as my morning and evening warm jacket... I will be taking this with me on my October Mountain run, and always have it when I camp)
I have a Motorcycle Vest, a light bike jacket, and a heavy leather Jacket. Which I alternate as my top layer depending on temperature.
I also have my rain gear. And adjust the layers accordingly if it is raining. My experience is that a sunny day in the fall is always colder than a rainy day.
A big thing for me is a good silk scarf. It will keep you warm on cold days, and cool on hot days.
On my bottom half I wear long underwear, jeans and Chaps. No heated gear. I find if I keep my core temperature and hands warm, my legs are fine.
I have a half helmet. And often I wish I had had my full coverage Shoie Neotech with me in Alaska this summer. I suggest if you have space take one.
The thing about layering is that it is easy to peal layers off and tie them to the bike as the day warms up. One day last year I had every layer on when I started in the morning in Missoula.... 35 degrees at the top of the Lolo pass.... and was down to a shirt and vest by the time I got to Lewiston.
The only thing that stops me, is snow or ice. Even then I take a pack of heavy tie straps as emergency chains to get me out of trouble.
I would rather be cold and wet on a Motorcycle.... than warm and dry in a cage.... And if I can make the Motorcycle Ride Warm & Dry.... then I got it made, don't I?

Also, what do ya'll recommend for heated gear, and where's the best place to get it? There isn't much heated gear here in Georgia.
Also, what do I do about a helmet? Should I bring 2 helmets, a nice small light one for everyday and something like a full face for when it gets cold?
