The Iron Butt Riders of HDForums

As far as I can tell, it seems to be someone's job to find info on other websites to put together in a "story" on the forum's site. Then they create a thread with a link to the story.
The catch is, IMO, the info is lacking and the page that it is posted on has more advertisements than a free **** site (not that I'd know about that kinda thing...).
I'm guessing they plucked this straight from someone else's site. I wouldn't be surprised if it is straight plagiarism.

THANKS mate! I learned something today. Now back to my **** site. I mean ok GREAT!
Thank you again BL55, that makes sense.

The rules tend to be very clear and are to be taken seriously.
If you are going for any ride, let us say in particular the 1st ride most people do the 1,000 mile Saddle Sore (SS) within 24 hours, make sure you ride more than 1,000 miles.
If you cut it too short and the mapping system IBA uses is different than yours and shows that you only went 999 miles, you will not be awarded the certificate.
So always run over the number of miles you are intending to do.
I am excited for you guys! Let us know how things go… And absolutely read the AOW (Archives Of Wisdom) you will find on the site.

There apparently is an editor of sorts who employs writers to create and post content. Someone recently wrote a quick thread to highlight 5 different customized Sportsters and my bike was one of those selected. That thread is here
Thank you for the explanation. You get a "thank you".

Go for it!
If you have interest in doing your first Iron Butt I highly recommend Dick Peck's book, Crossing America. It is a great read with lots of good info - things to do and things NOT to do. Also as noted above go to the Iron Butt Association website for all you will need to know.
I am one of the newest members {#68,990} as I just completed my 1,071 mile - 18.5 hours SS1000 on last October 2nd. Just got confirmation of my certification earlier this week.
The shorter days and colder nights of this time of year are not your best bet. Late spring and early fall work very well. Do your homework, carefully plan your route and have options in hand should things {like weather, road conditions etc.} change.
Even if you never do a second event the satisfaction of doing one is amazing... and yes, at age 66, I am in the early planning stages of my next event.
