Glacier National Park Ealy Spring Conditions
Stumbled onto this article in the Kalispell, Mont. paper today. GNP saw above average snow this winter, on both the east and west sides. So for those planning rides over The Sun Road this year, the best guess is 3rd or 4th week of June...probably 4th week. These folks try hard to open that road ASAP since it means so much to the state's economy.

Later is better, I think we were there the 3rd week of June last year. They opened the road the week after we left.

I am itching to get out and thought about doing a Missoula/Sandpoint/Nelson loop this weekend, but their calling for snow here tomorrow..... rats. Oh well, suppose to be Sunny & cool today, maybe a local ride. That’s a hell of a video.
For those that haven’t, here’s The Sun Road a few years ago ...... you truley can’t imagine it. The lower “cut” is the road, the one that comes back out of the saddle up and to the left is a hiking trail...... on a long weekend it is so busy you need brake lights and turn signals for passing on your backpack...... Always a place to park a bike at the top, even on the busiest weekend. |

Prob one of the greatest rides ever...absolutely breathtaking road. Wow, Beautiful Pics !! Was just kicking around the idea of a Montana/Wyoming/Idaho trip next year, and came across this. Any info would be appreciated (time to go/routes) . Never been to this area. Figure a July/August time-frame would be best. Been to Colorado 3 times, Tenn/NC twice and Utah parks once. This seems to be the next bucket list ride !

We were there last year in August. Had a good time but with the forest fires in Canada the visibility was limited maybe 1mile didn’t get to see those great views. Oh well we made it up to Yak MT that was cool. |
