For long multi-day rides I wear Johnny rocket mesh pants. Stays cool and includes armor.

To reduce luggage.
Jeans
Thermal liner if it is going to be a cold day.
Rain gear pants if it gets really cold or need a wind blocker.
Many people forget the warmth that rain gear can provide by just blocking the wind.

I bought a pair of armored mesh textile riding pants last year for my road trip. They offer more protection than jeans and flow a ton more air. They are also water resistant and dry fast so unless I ride in a torrential downpour they’ll keep me dry. Super comfortable and the price didn’t break the bank

Unfortunately as I get older and fatter I find it hard to find a comfortable pair of jeans. They either fit nice above my belly but with legs like sails, or below my belly with good fit on legs ! Will have to try some 'Duluth' pants as they get good reviews...b.

I wear jeans at all times with leather chaps on hand for the chillier ride. I also learned pretty quick to wear looser fitting jeans as normal jeans tend to tighten up in the mid region when riding. And no, I do not wear skinny jeans! LOL!!
I have been shopping around for jeans specifically for riding that offer more protection than everyday jeans.
