Really wanting to go this year since 2011 was my last time. The Chip has an awesome lineup of acts I've not seen yet. Not sure If I can pull it off this year or not due to some health issues.

Default Sturgis 2013

My son and I and a friend went to Sturgis in 2013. The trip was a blast.
It was a three day ride for us from California sierra foothills.
We camped in once on the way and once on the way back, at Wendover Utah KOA, it was nice to have Hot shower.
The rest of the trip was hotels.
Once we got to sturgis we stayed at the IRON HORSE INN in WHITEWOOD, Not far from Sturgis but out of the Crowds.
THE IRON HORSE INN HAS ROOMS AVAILABILITY RIGHT NOW.
Bring a Tarp for the thunder storms.
We lucked out on the largest down pour, we were at MT Rushmore's Parking garage.
Watch out For South Dakota and Wyoming out of town hwy Speed traps, Luckily They had customers when we went whissing by.
We are thinking about either going To Glacier National park or to return to Sturgis this year.
Maybe We will see ya there

It is really tough to go wrong when going to Sturgis. The hardest part is finding someone to take care of your house, or family, finding someone to watch the kids, getting time off from work, getting the mail checked, grass cut, ect. Getting the bike packed and the ride to Sturgis is easy!!!

The long way.
Sturgis is a journey as much as a destination.

Hope this is in the right place... this will be only my 4th ride to/from Sturgis in 15 years but I believe it's understandable since I have to fly from Downunder to LA and pick up a bike stored there first :-) this time I intend to take 2 bikes and stay 2 weeks; 2 bikes is because I am a Paranoid Planner and if one breaks down I wanna keep riding. I'm riding one up / back from Phoenix (LA got too expensive for long-term storage) and I would like to ask of y'all - any recommendations based on personal experience, for a reliable shipper to bring bike #2 from PHX to Rapid City in later July and back again in mid-August... Thanks in advance!

Think about having a plan to rent one if your bike breaks down. If you do the research and have a plan to get one on short notice you will be most likely be a cheaper way to go.

Thank you. I did some research and unfortunately - the rental people tell me that I need to book now or it is vanishingly unlikely I'd be able to pick up a rental at short notice unless I'm in the queue and someone cancels... ah well. Plan B then more research!
