Default Monument Valley, tour or ride thru?

May include Monument valley on a trip coming up. What do folks do there?

Is it a ride through area? Stuff to stop and see? I have found guided tours. Are they worth a visit?

For me, it was a ride through from Mexican Hat, take pics, head to Durango. Are you doing Moki Dugway ?

Highly recommend Gooseneck State Park and Moki Dugway!

Yeah, it was a "surprise" when we got there. Took a minute to catch our breath and survey, then headed down slowly in neutral using the back brake. SUVs were heading up and we were going down, not much room. But was a hoot !

We had just came from a few days in the North Rim, Zion, Bryce and stayed in Hanksville, coming down south through Glen Canyon I think. Not sure which way you'd be coming from?

The best way to see Monument Valley, and this is true for many places on reservation land, is by guided tour. Only you can decide if it is "worth it" or not. You can get a decent shot of the iconic mittens from the parking lot of The View , which might be enough. I did a drive through about 10 years ago and have been wanting to get back ever since to spend more time and take the tour.

Moki Dugway is not as bad as it may look? Curves are paved. Rest is packed gravel. Your only going 5 to 10 mph. At the top is a dirt road that will take you to an awesome view of the canyon .

I didn't have a lot time when I drove through that area, but I did manage to take the obligatory photographs.
