We did the BRP from Cherokee to just inside Virginia a couple weeks ago.

With all due respect to my home state of Virginia, I think the best part of the BRP is the stretch from Asheville north to the VA border. The Virginia section is less impressive to me. If you are going further north, though, there are great overlooks on Skyline Drive. Again, not as impressive as the NC parts of the BRP though.

Personally, I think the best section is from Cherokee to Ashville. Don't get me wrong Ashville to VA is great but..
