Default Foothills Parkway

The whole complete road will never be finished...either lack of desire or money. It was originally planned to come off I-40 and take you to Hwy 129. Now the last section they will ever build is finished and it ends in Wears Valley. I'm pretty sure there was about 70 more miles that will never be built. Last time I was on the bike coming back, on I-40 from Asheville, I saw the sign that read "Foothills Parkway". I took it and it eventually led me to Sevierville. Just kind of a non descript 2 lane highway with no beautiful overlooks. Still it would save time going to Sevierville rather than going to exit 407 and backtracking.
I know it is a great tourist draw, although I haven't ridden it yet. I know it will be a pretty sight.
I guess we are extremely lucky to have the Cherohala Skyway finished... What if they just said screw it, it's too hard, so we will just stop here.

Default Foothills Parkway

It depends on where you are coming from...It dead ends into Hwy 129, the dragon, on the west side and runs east to Wears Valley and Hwy 321. It has spectacular views and plenty of places to pull over and enjoy the scenery. If you are coming in from Jax, take I-10 over to I-75 North and then look for Hwy 411 in either Cleveland, Athens or Sweetwater Tn. Take it North to either 129 or 72, which runs into 129, until you see the sign on 129 that says Foothill Parkway next left. Most of the overlooks on the parkway will be on your right side if you start at Hwy 129. There are a couple on the left that over look the towns of Maryville and Alcoa.
129 is the "Dragon" so if you don't turn left or turn around, you will ride the dragon's tail.

Another option off 75N is to take the Chattsworth Ga 411 exit which is about 40-50 miles north of Atlanta. Not a bad ride with the mountains on your right. That's generally the way I go when heading to the cabin which is between Englewood and Tellico Plains.
Watch your speed though small town cops especially in Benton, Etowah and Englewood.
