End of Year Florida Christmas Ride, 8 Days 2047 Miles
#31
Well folks that is all I got. I hope you have enjoyed sharing our ride with us. I write the details and take the pictures for my father. He rode back in his 40's but was so busy traveling the world for his job he gave it up. He loves motorcycles and lives though us. At age 81 now with many health issues this is how we allow him to share the experience.
If you like it please give me a "Thanks" on the button.
I hope I have inspired some of you to consider making a ride like this. North Carolina is probably as far North as you would want to start from in December but it can be done. Don Tilley did it for like 29 years the day after Christmas. Usually the ride just went to Daytona and then across the state to Cedar Key and back. But this time we had more days and left early. Everything lined up perfectly.
Now plan you year end ride!
God Bless & Ride safe
Oh dang, I almost forgot the funniest part of the whole trip. We leave the Mile 7 Grill and pull into the gas station to fill up. A guy walks over all smiling with a Harley shirt on and says "I LOVE YOUR BIKE, we don't have any like this back home". I ask where he is from and he says Venezuela. He pulls out his phone and shows me a picture of his softail. Then he asks if he can get a picture of our bike. My wife says sure and stands next to me. He shakes his head NO and says you take the picture pointing to my wife. Then he hands her his phone and he stands next to me. That really tore her up!!!!!!!!!

Wow, great account of the trip. I have been to several of the locations you mentioned. Riding to Key West is very cool. St. Augustine is very cool too. I have stood beside that same old pickup in front of that Harley dealer in Savanah. I stayed right across the road from that dealer during my October trip. I hope to retire and have many trips like yours in the not too distant future.

I forgot to share something I think is important about the Florida Keys for those that may not know.
Henry Flagler, Oil Tycoon and name sake of Flagler Beach had a vision to extend his railroad beyond Miami south through the Keys to Key West. It almost seems like an impossible feat 114 years ago now.
The Flagler railroad began in 1905 followed 20 years later with first Overseas Highway (1925-1928). The second Overseas Highway actually began before the 1935 hurricane, however it was the 1935 hurricane that became the "mother of necessity" completing it in 1938.
History Overseas Railroad: http://www.keyshistory.org/osh.html
The Hurricane of September 2, 1935 Killed over 400 people and ended railroad service to the keys forever.
Link Florida Key Memorial: http://www.keyshistory.org/hurrmemorial.html
I'm disappointed that we failed to see the monument on Islamorada to those that lost their lives. Another reason to go back.
