While at Americade a few years ago, I stopped by one of the booths at the Expo and picked up a Motorcycle Tour Guide Nova Scotia & Atlantic Canada. Seemed useful. Might want to look into getting one.
Also, BackroadsUSA magazine had an article in November 2017 about Exploring the Ragged Edge of North America. Worth a read. You can find it online. Maybe visit *****?

Go to the Nova Scotia Tourism website, they will send you the hand book for free. Worth the two minutes to order it.

US ATM card to get Canadian money works well.

We rode the Cabot trail few years ago and had a great time. In Cape Breton we first stayed at the Hampton Inn in Sydney (using points). C did not like staying Sydney so we used Expedia(I think) to get a discount at the Keltic Lodge in Ingonish. That proved to be a great place to use as a base since a lot of the sites to see were either north or east. The lodge can be pricey, we stayed in "cabin room" that was crawling distance from the nightly live music in the bar.

We rode up from Bangor where I picked her up crossing at Calais and staying in St John and Moncton. When we do it again we will cross at Campobello island and take the free ferries through deer island. We will skip Moncton and take the ferry and go through Halifax.

The biggest nice suprise was going to Fort Louisburg on Canada Day, highly recommended.

Hmm, went to their site and do not see it, maybe they stopped making it. Sorry about that.

This is where we home based for 4 days:

http://inveraryresort.com

Nice place in town, good location for trips around the Cape and a day trip to Sydney and the Fort.
