Default Montana trip

The end of June we are planning to fly to Great Falls and rent a car for a week. Besides Glacier and Lewis and Clark Cave, what would you suggest we take in including neat places to eat and sleep [ not camping.] Thanks

Depending on how far south you are going, Mammoth Springs is an entrance to Yellowstone. A little farther east is The battle of Big Horn….

Montana's a big state, but if you're in the Missoula area, we had a great night at Lolo Hot Springs Lodge after riding Lolo Pass (Hwy 12). Great soaking pools and reasonably priced rooms, also biker friendly. We saw two moose while we were there, pretty cool.

Seriously. Montana is definitely best experienced on two wheels. It's called Big Sky Country for a reason. You don't want to be obscuring that Big Sky with a cage.

Look at Virginia City on Hwy 287...old town with lots of character..
We stayed at the Fairweather Inn. Everything is within walking distance..
They even have a comedy show within an old barn building..
The Pioneer Bar is great also..

there's also Ennis...

About 12 years ago I did a solo bike trip and just rode all over Montana for a week. I started in Red Lodge, worked my way west on 90 to Helena, rode past to 93 straight up into the flathead lake region and finally into Kalispell. Went through the Glacier National Park and down 15 through Bozeman and finally into Sheridan, WY. Saw awesome scenery, met great people, got a reality check in some of the reservations. Have gone back couple of times since then mostly for yellowstone but always make a point of riding Beartooth Hwy into Red Lodge.
