"The Annual Pass does not cover Expanded Amenity fees such as camping, boat launching, parking, special tours, special permits or ferries."

For an extended trip I think this would be a good deal to be able to visit the parks, and decide if camping is feasible without being gouged with entrance fees.

I get the annual pass every year. You can order one online or just buy it at the park when you get there. The card is activated by hole punch the first time you use it. With the higher entrance fees now it's a must if your going to a lot of parks.

KOAs here most of the time. Usually great folks running the places and most of them are smartasses so we get along just fine. Camping gives a better opportunity to meet folks as well. State and Natl parks are good, too, if they have the amenities you want (water, shower). Here are a couple of conversations with KOA folks I had on my Epic Journey last year:

Vernal, UT - checking in
me - How are you doing?
manager gal (mg) - Great! How about you?
me - pretty good, ready to call it a day. Do you have a kamping kabin available?
mg - Yes we do. It's $xx (whatever it was)
me - Is that your best rate?
mg - Yeah, it probably is. Do you have AARP?
me - No. My wife bought me one for my 50th as a joke and I didn't keep it.
mg - Would you like the old guy discount?
me - Sure!
assistant guy - I saw your bike. You don't need a discount.
me - Yes I do, I'm unemployed
ag - So am I.
me - It's 12 yrs old.
ag - I bet it came from a collection didn't it?
me - I bought it used.
ag - It looks too good.
me - I have no visible means of support
ag - Neither do I.

So anyways, I got a discount. I got on the scooter to ride to the kabin. I looked at the camp map and looked around to find where I was. The assistant guy drove up on a golf cart and said "Lost already? Follow me". LOL.

Durango, CO - breakfast at the KOA

cook - What can I get for you, bud?
me - I'll have the strawberry and cream waffle and coffee.
cook - Do you want any sausage with that?
me - No, thanks.
cook - Are you sure?
me - Yeah, I'm sure. Thanks.
cook - It's great sausage. You should get some.
me - No, but thanks for asking.
cook - Alright. What's the name for the order?
me - Gordon
cook - You ever see that commercial with the weird GorDON character?
me - Yeah, I've seen it. Kinda pisses me off.
cook - Well, what we do around here is put all of the site numbers in a bowl then we have a drawing to see who we **** off each day. You're the winner today!
me - Well, at least I won something! LOL!

other guy ordering after me - Give me the strawberry and cream waffle.
cook - How about some sausage with that?
guy - No, no sausage.
cook - Aw come on get some sausage.
guy - No, thanks.
cook - You need to get some sausage. I'm on a commission and need to sell sausage to put a kid through college.
