Thunder Beach

Just got home from Thunder Beach this weekend. It wasn't far from home so I only put on 426 miles. It was a good ride down AL 167 to FL 79 into Panama City Beach. Took a scenic ride on 98 to Apalachicola FL. Nice little town where the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall was for the weekend. Had some great seafood all weekend. Billy's in PC and a great little 2nd floor join on the water in Apalachicola. Plenty of cold beer all weekend and good times. Hope to go back for the fall rally.

Morz, how does 167/79 from Troy compare to 231 all the way to PC? Seems like it takes forever to get through Dothan. I went down on Wednesday from B'ham area, heard this may have been a record crowd this year. Great weather, excellent seafood, cold beer and plenty of THUNDER! Came back Saturday and got home just in time to hear the toronado sirens go off, then all day Sunday more toronado warnings and hail. Fall rally should be good to.

Hey, I was an Escort for the Wall. We took it from Marianna to Apalachicola. Was an amazing ride. From what I hear, we had 8 miles of motorcycles in the ride.

Pretty bad when you live in Panama City and avoid Thunder Beach. The girlfriend and I made a ride from PC to Mexico Beach instead and ate at Toucans.

Three of us arrived thursday around 4pm. Dropped our luggage at the room and headed to Finn's Sandbar across from the Sandpiper Beacon. We had some cold beer and baked cheesy oysters. We went to the Club La Vela events, then The Boardwalk events. Live band Holdcell rocked ! Wet T-shirt contest.

Friday was packed out ! We went to Frank Brown Park for the events there, watched the dudes jump dirt bikes and Globe of Death, fun to watch. The that night was Oxygen and indoor burnouts, titty painting, a live band (Hired Guns) and pole dancing. Saturday was Edgewater events and then Pier Park, we left Tootsie's Orchid Lounge around 2am. It's was insane ! Saturday was our best day.

Left sunday around 11am headed home, made it all the way to just north of Rockford Alabama and got hit by a storm, I was alone by this time as my buddies had went to a different town. I lost sight of the road, had no where to pull off and was down to less than 10 mph when I got hit in the mouth with a limb, I thought it busted my windshield, it almost knocked me off my bike. I could not see past my windshield and was hoping I would not get ran over from behind. The wind was blowing east to west, I couldn't see the stripe in the middle or outside of the road.

I finally seen a Chevron station and pulled in, their power was out. I parked my RK and went inside and took a look at my mouth in the sunglass rack mirror and still had all my teeth, just a fat lip and a red whelp across my face. The rain finally eased about 30 minutes later and I got back on the road and finished the trip home in the rain happy to be alive. There was all sorts of debris in the road, a tree had fell and snapped the powerlines and a power pole that was about 3 miles north of the Chevron.

The whole trip was an adventure all the way til the end. It F'n ROCKED ! Now I gotta clean that Road King up before it starts to rust.

This years event seemed bigger than ever. I go twice a year and it seems to have more vendors and bikes each season. Can't wait to go back again in September.

PoppaDuece,
231 four lane and Dothan is not a fun ride. I much prefer 167 to 79 for the ride. Should not be much more than a 20 min difference.

morz90, thanks, I think I'll try it next time down.

I left Sunday at 10:00 from the condo. When I hit 79, All I could see was bikes, trailers and rv's.
I was surprised the traffic was moving along at 60 to 65 most of the way to Troy. Good ride.
I have only been to the last 6 Thunder Beach Rally's. This had to be the largest so far. The strip was full by 11:00. Can you believe the crowd at the Outpost?
Shuckums and Billy's win for the best oysters this year. See ya in the fall.
