need advice on roads for nice one day one way trip from las vegas to monterey,ca

I did that trip years ago in a cage and it was a long day. I saw some very remote and interesting country on that trip. Left Vegas - north to just before Beatty took 374 west - to the 190 to Olancha - south on 395 to the 14 for a bit to the 178 to go around lake Isabella then into Bakersfield - then catch the 46 west to the 101 and up to Monterey. Google shows about 575 miles and a very long day. Will have to watch gas stops on the first half of the trip too. It will take a little planning but I would like to take that one again.

My recent trips to Montery (from AZ) take I40 to Barstow then the 58 to Bakersfield and the 46 to 101. That is a very boring route until you pass Mohave/Edwards air force base - but you can make time on that route. (from Vegas it would be 15 south to Barstow and the 58)

At least rooms are cheap in Bakersfield if you stop halfway.
