Rattlesnake Pass & Hwy 12
Just got back from a great trip, where three of us rode to Enterprise OR and traveled Highway 3 to Lewiston ID over Rattlesnake Pass. It's a great road with good scenery and lots of twisties. It follows the Grande Rhonde River.
Rattlesnake Pass:
At the bottom of the grade there is a cafe called "Boggan's Oasis" that is famous with bikers and travelers for their shakes. Have to say it mighta been the best I've ever had. After that you head back up the mountain thru a lot of switchbacks, eventually ending up in Lewiston ID or Clarkston WA. You get on the Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway which is Hwy 12. Lots of historical markers and beautiful scenery. You follow the Clearwater River throughout the ride. You eventually end up on the legendary Lolo Pass, although we didn't go that far this trip. One great site on 12 is Dworshak Dam and reservoir.
Dworshak Dam:
Middle Fork Clearwater River:
One of our many "photo op" stops:
I highly recommend this trip, especially if you include Lolo Pass and Missoula. We sure had fun.

I have done that ride twice this year and may do it again Labor Day weekend, which for me starts tomorrow. Next time you are there as you head out of Lewiston take a left off of the bridge just before you head east on 12 or go north and take the Old Spiral Highway. It is not vety long but well worth the time.

Those with vertigo shouldn't be riding motorcycles on the road with or without guard rails.
