Smile Blue Ridge Parkway 2012 (Pics)

Well, I decided to take a trip down the blue ridge parkway. Starting from western Ohio, over to Marietta Ohio for a night to see some cousins, to Winchester Virginia, all the way down the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway, then back home. Here's pretty much the route.

I was expecting pics???

Just 4 weeks ago, we did the Skyline from Front Royal south to the end.
Next day we did the BRP into Roanoke.
Ended up on 60W into West Virginia.

1,900 miles in six days, even spent 2 days in Gettysburg on the way home.

Beautiful country, probably one of the best road trips we've taken so far.

Here is my transportation for the trip. A 2007 FXST. I always travel real light. There's some tools in the swing arm bag (Channel locks, crescent wrench, a couple of screwdrivers, metric and standard allen wrenches, flashlight, some duct tape, etc.). I've also got a change of clothes or two in that backpack.

You know, the only time I took a wrong turn this entire trip was when I was about 1.5 hrs away from home. Ha! So I tacked on about 45 minutes on my first stop to Marietta but, as one of my coworkers says, "You'll have that on the big jobs!".

Took me about 5 hours to get there on route 50. Not much to show or tell on this part of the journey. Although there was a paddlewheel festival going on downtown, I never did take any photos of that, but here is some I found on google.

I guess they race these things. Sounds like watching turtles race to me!

Alright then, here is basically the start of the real trip. Getting to Winchester Virginia was really just a necessity. This is actually a pretty cool little town. They've got all kinds of museums, outdoor cafes, civil war stuff, real old cemetaries. Neat place!

Here's the hotel I stayed in. The George Washington Hotel. I think it was built in 1914 and was the place to be for politicians and dignitaries and what not?

When I walked up to the front desk to get a room, there were two members of staff working the counter. The staff member on the left side of the desk was helping a mother and 8 year old'ish boy so I went to the teller on the right. As soon as I said "Do you have any rooms availa........" I heard a load "RAAAAAaaaaaaarrrRRR!" That kid started projectile vomiting all over the floor. I thought he was going to blast a hole through that marble floor. Ha! I should have gotten a picture of that, but didn't, so here is something similar.

Below is the civil war museum. They had all kinds of neat stuff in there. Old cannons, rifles, uniforms, all kinds of neat stuff!

Here's a shot of a street in Winchester where there are no vehicles allowed. It's just a bunch of open air cafes, bars, and shops. Really cool.

Here's a beer I drank. Mmmmmmm.....Sam Adam's Octoberfest! Omnomnomnomnom...

These are some photos from Shenandoah (spelling?) national park. I took the skyline drive all the way to the end.
