Can you give us some idea of the basic route you intend to take? I'm assuming I-40 to I-25 but
there are lots of other paths.. and how long you have to spend in NM? There's a ton of cool stuff,
but most of it is not directly on the main interstate route although not hard to get to and not that
far off it..

Entering from AZ on 40 or secondary roads in the general direction toward Santa Fe then North. Looking at my aaa map there are some scenic routes heading N. Hwys 76, 518, 522, 64. Probably spend 2 or 3 days checking out your state. Open to any ideas, thanks

Great choices.. You can't go wrong anywhere in that area.

If you're going up through Las Vegas, NM, you might want to run about 20 miles further North
on I-25 and take in Fort Union National Monument. It was the main US Army post protecting the
Santa Fe Trail and once commanded by Kit Carson. The wagon ruts of the Trail are still there
to be seen..

It's largely a ruin, but pretty neat and something very few people are aware still exists and is open
to the public.

A photo album I took there last year.

That rut is the honest-to-God Santa Fe Trail still visible after 150 years.

In any case, it's great riding anywhere in that area..

I'll echo Mike's advice. Stay North of Santa Fe, and West of I-25.

I live in the east end of the state and have to ride for at least 3 hours to get to anything but flat land and arrow straight roads.

The closest i would get to New Mexico if i was to go again would be the four corners....i was just there, nasty winds, sand storm and tumbleweeds that scared the hell of me at night time on the interstate...
New Mexico is off my bucket list and i was looking there to retire ....NOT!!!

Northern New Mexico is a place I could live, love the country there. The Turquoise Trail from 40 north to Santa Fe is nice. Valles Caldera west of Los Alamos is a great ride and pretty amazing sight with nice roads too. Lots of good pavement to explore. It's big country you can rack up some miles!
