Default 2015 CVO SG vs 2017 CVO SG

Last week I took out both CVO'S with a friend riding my 15. I was really impressed how my 15 was barely a step behind my 17. The 15 was right there all day long we did 200 plus miles on the back roads, highway and city. We rode through the rains and sunshine as well. My 17 definitely has the advantage on the gearing. The 17 is basically a gear behind. Meaning the 15 is in 6th gear around the 50 plus mph. While my 17 is in 5th gear and I shift to 6th around the 60 mph plus. I'd say for the difference is close to 10 mph in each gear between the 2 bikes. The 17 has a more commanding and softer but sporty feel and of course the engine vibration as well. The heat off the two bikes to me is not dramatic. I have the 16 CVO Limited as well and not as excited to jump to a 17 M8 CVO Limited after the riding together experience. And the 17 CVO Limited colors not so great besides maybe the Silver Blue. But not willing to take a bath on my 16 and not worth it if anyone is wondering. I am glad I kept my 15 CVO and not take a beating on it. Just sharing and hope helps others to evaluate their situation better. The 17 M8 CVO is very nice but not worth taking 12-15k loss on your 14-16 CVO. If you can sell her outright and get 30-32K than not so bad and probably would jump. But not 12-15k trade. And to each his own it's only money LOL.
Enjoy the pictures

You're in 6th gear at 50 mph? I see some crank work in your not too distant future. Even at 60 mph you're in too low of a gear. Most riders aren't into 6th gear until they're well into the 70's.

Yeah I'd agree it's probably more like 65-68 mph. Just trying to stay conservative and the there is a big difference at 70-80 mph on the 17. The 17 is truly a cruiser and feels nicer in the 70-80 Mph speed.

Yeah for the record I know we can max out the rpms before shifting and the difference of what I posted is by far different. I am just using a general shift between gears and not maxing rpms. And to each his own as I stated in the posting most here probably will not justify the jump to the new M8 cause our 110's are still awesome.

Thanks for the review.

1. Holy crap, 3 CVOs...

2. Is your 15 stock or did you do any work to it (exhaust, tuner, etc?)?

Admittedly, I thought about a 17, but just can't let me 15 go just yet. Thanks for cementing that decision.

No modifications on any of my CVO'S besides the slip on mufflers. I work off my bikes (when possible) and usually ride 200 plus miles each time I jump on them. My experience with installing the Stage 1 and tuner my mileage just drops to much. I average around 40-45 stock and my experience has been 30's on mpg modified. And don't get me wrong I rode them hard and fast and not bragging. But the DC metro area is crazy fast 80 mph ain't nothing. And yeah if I put a Stage 1 on my 15 she's probably passing my 17 LOL.

I can't agree with your comment on stage 1 and fuel economy.... I had a '15 that was more than Stage 1..... mild ported and polished heads, TW 777 cams, full Fuel Moto header and ESeries slip ons, dynod using PV-2 tuner and I was easily capable of still getting 40+ mpg.

My '17 CVOSG is now a 117 and getting 40-42 as well.. Stay out of the throttle occasionally and it does get decent mpg.
