You’re not going to like my answer. I’m on my 3rd M8 engine in my 2017 CVO Limited. The first sign of sumping was a serious drop in fuel mileage down to 30mpg and even high 20’s. Its a result of the crank fighting the extra resistance of a case full of oil. There will be no engine lights, just a ridiculously low mpg. I hope I’m wrong for your benefit.

OK---so I called the MOCO and opened a case number on this problem. Told them about the rough idle (which SAC acknowledged on both visits) and about the poor fuel mileage. 170 per tank taking it easy and 150 if I jump on it at all. So I took it back to SAC ----they have had it since almost two weeks. They called today and said "nothing is wrong with it". ****! The idle was glass smooth for 3500 miles and gas mileage was 220-250. Something changed and all they can say is it's in spec. So I called Salt Lake HD where I bought it---the State of Utah does not have a lemon law!! ****!! So I spoke with the Service manager there---he said he has gotten calls from the MOCO several times on problems bikes around the western US and have had bikes shipped to him from those other dealerships to fix. SO---I called SAC back and told them I wanted the bike shipped to Salt Lake to be fixed. They said they had called the MOCO and that the MOCO was going to call me tomorrow. I am going to tell them I want the bike sent to Salt Lake. We'll see what happens. What a pain in the ***----a forty five thousand dollar POS!! I got better mileage on my 06 103 that was heavily modified. Sure didn't want to go through this with a brand new bike.

Heatwave, So what did you do? Ride it till it broke and then have the motor changed out? Can you share with me the chain of events on how you dealt with it?

Instead of reporting poor mileage ride the bike on the highway before visiting your local dealership. Ride the bike hard for at least 50 miles. Downshift to make higher speed passes. Try to maintain 70-80mph on your highway ride.

Then ride the bike directly to dealer from that ride. Tell them you’re feeling a loss of power when you try to pass. Tell them to check Service Bulletn 1450. They will take it from there and measure the oil in the crankcase. If there’s more than 6 ounces, your engine is sumping. If not, you have some other issue. Might be an injector thats not functioning properly but not throwing an error code.

Thanks Heatwave! Waiting on the MOCO to call me back this week. If it is sumping it's only a mater of time before they have they are going to have to replace the motor. I will gladly inform them of that. So it would behoove them to address it now. Or---I just right the **** out it till it has to be trailered back to them.
