Default 17 Low Rider S 110” loud ticking

New Low Rider S, 800 miles on so far. Has a loud ticking noise at startup. Took a video that captures the sound pretty well. How Can I post a video clip?? It sounds excessive to me. Takes over a minute to quiet down, but is still audible under exhaust noise. Worst when cold, but loud. Sounds like a rod knock, but it is not. Would like someone to hear the video clip and advise. When I️ ask, people just say they make noise and shrug it off.

Thanks!

Karl

I would take it in if its under warranty. The 110's have had a history of lifter problems. Don't risk it brother. A good friend of mine had lifter issues early on with his 15 CVO Street Glide.

Good luck in getting a dealer to say ANY noise coming from a Harley isn't normal.

You might get more replies if you post this in the Dyna forum or the Engine/Mechanical forum. Hopefully someone will recognize your issue and have some places to check.

Along those lines, have you replaced or worked on the exhaust system lately? There was another thread not too long ago where someone had a loud tick and it turned out to be an exhaust leak. Just a thought...

Exhaust will be soon. Waiting for the 1000 mile service coming up soon. I showed a video to a fellow rider at work this morning, and he agrees that the sound is excessive! Hopefully they will agree.

I have the same bike Karl. I rode three different FXDLS's at dealerships and every one of them had a loud tick. I was told that the 259 cams are noisy like that. I had some performance work done and changed lifters out at that time to fueling roller type lifters, and it is even louder now. Good luck getting HD dealership to say anything other than " They all do that" And when your warranty runs out they'll tell you that you should have brought it in!

Take your bike to the dealer, if under warranty, and have them listen to it and when they say they can't hear anything show them your video...i had a lifter go bad and when i took it in they tried that b.s. with me until I showed them a video of a cold start up...shut them up real fast. Don't let them weasel out and make sure they replace all 4 lifters...yup my dirtbag dealer replaced only 2!!! The day after the warranty expired i put in a set of s and s. I hope it works out for you good luck

I'll be doing this the day the warranty expires. All the stories I hear about the 110 lifter issue has me paranoid. While I'm in there, cams and HD SE oil pump for good measure. For now with only 1100 miles on it, it's super quiet and hopefully it stays that way.
