CVO Road Glide vs Road Glide/Road Glide Special
#21
Soooo.. took the Road Glide Special and Road King Special out for a demo this afternoon to compare to my 2016 Limited Low. Oh ma gawd.
The Road Glide Special is an incredibly nimble bike compared to my Limited. After the ride and going back to my Limited, it felt like I was trying to steer an elephant. The RGS also didn't feel like it was going to shake itself apart at an idle. I forgot to ask if there was any additional mods done to it, because it took off like a bat out of hell. I stalled it once like an idiot from a stand still. Clutch feels different from my Limited.
The Road King Special was alot of fun too.. very puritan bike. The special didn't come with a windscreen, so at highway speeds it felt like it was trying to take my half lid off Didn't have quite the power of the RGS, which makes me suspect there was something going on with the RGS. But both were very fun rides, and built for a different type rider. My heart says get the CVO Road Glide, but if they come out with a CVO Road King.. well, I'll have a much harder time deciding.

I'm just a big guy that needs a touring frame bike, but don't really have a need for all the extra storage. Honestly, I'm hoping there's a CVO Road King coming down the pipe soonish.. at least in the next year or two. If I need the extra space, I can put on a quick release tour pack, but most of the time I don't need it, or the extra weight. I really don't need the stereo or infotainment system either, which is why I'm leaning more toward the Road King.
There's a demo day tomorrow, so I'll be taking both the Road Glide and Road King out for a spin.

The 2018 CVO RG with the 21" front wheel (I believe the first time H-D put a 21" front wheel on a touring bike) is IMO one of the best looking motorcycles Harley has ever made. However the RGS is also a great looking bike. Looks like the 2019 CVO's will still have the 117 engines but the 2019 Specials (SGS, RGS, RKS) will be going to 114's so by doing that the "gap", engine wise, between a 117 RG CVO and a RGS 114 will be closed somewhat. Doesn't look like there is a CVO RK on the agenda for 2019. We'll know for sure on Tue.

Obviously I’m a bit biased. But if you like the CVO, it’s hard to beat the added goodies...things that come to mind right away (some have probably already been mentioned):
- Bigger engine
- Unique colors (can be good or bad)
- Gorgeous gauges
- Defiance goodies - grips, footboards, mirrors, etc
- WHIM is standard, and comes with a helmet headset
- CVO cover
- Lighted switches
- Lighted CVO logo on tank
- Flush gas cap
- Decent stock sound system
- LED blinkers
- LED headlights
- Stretched bags
- Not seeing the same bike on every corner
If you like what they’ve done to the CVO, it’s worth it. If you don’t, it’s not. It really is that simple.

no, you will not be able to add the abs later if you decide you want it.
if you want a good way to research this, check out the Harley service information portal, https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....user/loginForm you can register for free, and then sign in and check out the owner's manuals for whatever bike you want, and also the parts fiches.
if you look at a cvo and a 'regular' bike side by side, you'll see that there is very little that hasn't been touched on the cvo. different grips, pegs, peg mounts, gauges, stereos, wheels, paint, bags, exhaust, bars, etc.
