This weekend was my new baby's first service. Dropped it off Friday evening with 1/4 tank and 1100 miles. It was ready on Sunday, however I got her back empty and with 1140 miles. Does this seem excessive mileage for a 1000 mile service? I am pleased with the service and the turnaround time, but damn. BTW, my baby is an '08 FLHRSE4 Screamin' Eagle Road King.
Ah...I'd say something to the service manager. While you may not have proof, at least you can let them know that something ain't right. 40 miles is excessive. I don't know of any techs that "test" after 1000 mile service..other than run it across the shop to the clean up station.
Yep, they mark the milage on the service sheet when you drop the bike off. 40 miles is way too much. I once had the dealer put 20 miles on my bike that had less than 1000 on it, but they were trying to get the speedo recalibrated (darn custom bikes). On both my Harleys, the most miilage that has been added after a service is 6, and it's usually less than 5.
COMPLAIN COMPLAIN COMPLAIN. Sounds like someone went joyriding.
If I was a betting man I would guess someone had a long lunch hour or drove very fast there and back, An acquaintance of mine dropped his bike off for service and had a belt break when he left the shop, Coincedence Maybe, cost him $600.00
It depends on what service or repair is being done on it.
A bike that comes in for an oil change or just to have some chrome added.....shouldn't even have one miles on it.
A bike that comes in to have services like.....having to have tire replaced, new brakes, new belt, new clutch, or even locating certain noise. I can see having perhaps 10 miles added to it......
But 40 though......I would complain, complain, complain........
All my bikes are old most have well over 50,000 to 180,000 miles. If they ever have to go into a shop for anything......I don't really care how many miles they put on it. I've gots lots of miles already.....and more isn't going to hurt anything.
If my bike still had around 1,000 miles and still had fuel in it.....and I got it back with 40 extra miles. I would be bitching.
