I've got a 67,68 and 69. 67 and 68 both had kickers but don't know if PO's added them. 69 had the plug in the kicker shaft hole but I added a kicker to that one.

I wouldn't do it either. You said you were an "OLD" biker. What do we all have in common? We can't remember chit. As stated earlier, it's easier to clean up oil and keep a drip Pan underneath

I was told years ago by a grey beard to put a little ATF in the 50wt. oil in the transmission. That way you could tell whether you had an engine or transmission leak.

Thanks Race that's what I do on the flatsides as well. The question is more rhetorical in why does the manual make an issue of setting it on the advance mark with a light ASAP.
