Ignition recommendation for '83 FXR?
Gentlemen,
I currently have 2 modules on my bench: SE 32421-85A, and a single-fire Ultima 53-644.
Which one this light bike with no VOES (I guess) would benefit the most?
I may or may not install a kickstart later (it's not a priority). and the cam will be Andrews A (or AB), with mild mufflers, stock compression...
The remaining module will eventually go to '02 Sporty - based hardtail...

I have Not run a Single fire iggy on an FXR...I have had very good luck with the Stock S.E. Stuff but, Am Not familiar with the SE in your post...
Do You have a Dual fire or Single fire Pick-up in the Cone??
No Benefit whatsoever with a Stockish H-D engine Single fire vs Dual fire...
let us see how you end up with a Kicker on that '83 FXR OK?

Thank you Racepres!
The SE module is an early Evo one - from '84. And of course I do have corresponding pick-ups / rotors and coils for single and dual fire respectively. I mean those are the complete sets.
Would SE work well w/o VOES?
Ultima, on the other hand, has a special mode with no VOES, as far as I understand...
Or for a Shovel it doesn't really matter?

Oh...I think shovel or Not...the VOES matters...especially if you have some compression added.
That '83 would have come with fairly low compression...I run it's sister with a Dyna-S. Dual fire, and no VOES...It has been very good for me. I would however, prefer to Not have a Mechanical Advance mechanism...so Was I you the FXR would get the S.E. and I would Hot-Rod out that Sporty...gobs of compression, and the Single fire Ultima...
Not that it matters...But it is My $0.03
I threw in an Extra There!!!!

the ultima is a great unit - it can be used for single fire or duel fire it has a dip switch for that . ultima coils are Junk but the ignition, i have one in all the shops owned bikes for many years now with no issues we sell at least one a week in my shop 10 maybe more years
with stock compression adding a voes is no big deal but you do not have to use it if you deside you do not want to - when you set the shovel at TDC and adjust the static timing it will stop at 34 degrees total advance so your good to go for no voes
