82 FXR Won't turn over

Hoping you guys can help direct me with this. So far I've just been chasing a rabbit. ok...Hit starter and hear slow grinding noise...engine tries to turn over but won't. Check battery (new) and showing 12. Check starter, it was dragging. Replace both starter and solenoid. Still won't turn over...just drags as though battery is about to give out. Thought that maybe it's the switch. Tried jumping from the starter to the solenoid. Nothing. What have I overlooked or what am I doing wrong? I would appreciate the help. Thanks.

you said you replaced the starter and the soleniod -- they were New or used ?????

did you remove all the battery connections and checked the ends for loosness as the wire may have overheated and un done its self ?????-- did you check the batterys chassis ground UNDER the bike it has a ground strap the goes from the frame to one of the lower bolts in the inner primary -- < THIS ---

yes, new battery, starter and solenoid. I have performed and checked all that you mentioned.

Tried jumping from the starter to the solenoid. Nothing

Crossing from starter to small post on solenoid...no spark, no spin from starter, no anything.

Attempting to start the bike as you normally would when hitting the starter button you can hear the starter motor spin. Let off starter switch and try again. Only a drag sound and headlight dims.

does your bike have a ford car type relay that is connected between the battery and the soleniod ????

if not your main battery cable or the ground is not staying connected to full battery voltage OR the battery has a grounded plate and shows 12 volts but under load is craps out - did you have the battery load tested like a autozone ?????
