mystery short melting my battery
#11
One thing I have noticed is in the last few years...battery company's have changed the formula...(for lack of a better word) that they make the lead terminals out of...they melt at a much lower temperature than they used to.
The terminals on my present battery look worse than that...no shorts...no solenoid/starter problems...simply the connection loosened from vibration from a solid mounted motor...tightened the connection and still going.

Sorry if this is hijacking but I think I need this, couple questions just so I'm sure I understand completely. There is a Ford style solenoid that sees the starter relay signal from the start button and that sends 12V to solenoid connected to bendix linkage. Are the Ford Style more dependable?

solenoid sticking when you hit the button? more than likely it's wired backwards look at the pic the short terminal coming off the solenoid must go to the starter the long terminal must go to the + of the battery if not as soon as you hit the switch it'll not stop cranking
