I have shovels running around that I built in the early nineties. If you do them right, and run some top end lube like Marvel, they are pretty robust. I won't get into a debate over which parts are best, I will just say that if someone thinks they know what combination you need without inquiring about what you plan to do with the bike, you might want to keep looking.

Here's an update. I just spent the day installing my "new" top end. I'm almost ready to fire her up and can't wait.
