I just bought my first Harley, a 2012 Sportster XL883L, has under 800 miles on it. Was riding it this evening and it got stuck in 4th gear while upshifting around 40mph and will not go up or down. It is out of warranty due to the age. Any ideas on how to fix it?

What happens when you push the bike, clutch lever out and try to downshift at same time? Do you feel any ratcheting action? Does it shift then? Does it have the stock foot controls or aftermarket?

 

After 2004 HD eliminated the trap door for the tranys You have to pull the engine and split the cases now Thanks HD ! Hopefully it's something simple
