Default Lifters and push-rods - I need advice.

Here's what I took out:

After watching a few vids on assembling shovels, I came to the realization that something is different in the pushrod department.

I wasn't the owner of this bike until it had sat in a garage, disassembled, for about 20 years. The previous owner didn't keep notes.

Are these solid lifters? Can they be identified?

How would I go about installing and adjusting?

Would I be better off getting new lifters and rods?

pull the lifter from the roller and take a couple pics hydraulic have small holes like on the rollers to allow oil in solids do not after you figure out if they are solid or hydraulic we'll get into adjusting

what you have is a OEM hydraulic lifter with an after market solid conversion insert

the pushrods are also after market and not for hydraulic lifters

its a standard set up for that type of shovel you have my guess 70 to 76

They definitely have holes to allow the pressurized oil in the cylinder of the lifter but there's no spring or seal. Perhaps I'm one of those guys so used to V-8 engines that everything seems so foreign to me on a V-twin.

The bike is a 1983 FXWG. As far as I know, it's mostly stock except for a '91 transmission, S&S stroker kit, Super B carb and Phase 3 belt primary. The jugs seem to be Zodiac.

Any ideas on adjustment procedure? Should I just follow instructions for solid lifter adjustments?

setup to adjust is the same for both. with the solids tighten them till you just start to feel friction while twisting the push rods with your fingers. Take your time and try it a couple times before you decide to go to the next one. you DO NOT want them to tight. A little loose makes noise, to tight causes damage. Solids are NOT quiet they will make a little slight tick. I run solids and i like them. If who had the bike before you and did solids right he blocked off the oil port feeding them so if you decide to go back to hydraulics make sure to remove the plug.
