You should replace the spring! It's weakened if you need to stretch it for it to do it's job - it will fail again.

Ok, noticed the switch button housing was a little loose. At first I figured it was the starter switch on handlebars.
I opened it up, saw that the switch is sealed.
Put everything together again, tightened it up and made sure all the screws were tight. Turned the ignition switch to on, then hit the button and started the engine. No problems, after I made sure it all was tight! Motor ran good, starter did not stay on even after letting go of the button!
