Default Stumbles in all gears

Got the ratchet top squared away. Thanks for the help. Bike is hard to start and stumbles in all gears when I get on it a bit. S&S super E shortly. Carb has been cleaned and rebuilt. Found a broken fly weight spring when I tuned it up. I was told that the OEM fly weights were crap and I should replace them with high quality aftermarket ones. Any ideas? Thanks.

get rid of the weights completely and get a good electronic ignition and set the timing and it will run consistent

If your carb is tuned correctly then check your timing. Over 30 years with the same OEM weights and springs, never had a problem. But I agree with hogman, go electronic for the simplicity.

Thanks for your responses gentlemen. Any recommendations on which electronic ignition system to visit, Dynatek, Excel, Mallory, etc?

I believe the Dyna S ignition is the go to for shovels.... Very easy to install and will last a long time.....

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'm going to replace the fly weights since there seemed to be quite a bit of wear on the current ones. Plus, since the Dyna S uses fly weights, if I finally do go the electronic ignition route, I'll have all new components.

Look at the Ultima ignition kit. It can be had for a very good price and is fully electronic with no weights for advance.

I've got one on my current build, but haven't got to the point of being able to fire it up yet.

Seems to get good reviews.

I have put 2 of the Ultima units in a shovel and an ironhead. Only been running them 2 years, but ok so far.
