Default VIN on 1980 FXS 80 Lowrider

I'm looking at a FXS 80 when I get out of camp and want to make sure all is good. The first time I looked at it I noticed the registration paper Vin/ # starts 76 not 7G like I thought it should.and I could not find the Vin on the frame but it looks like the frame has been painted. The guy I'm emailing back and forth that's selling it for a widow is also working in camp.

Cut to the chase, what I'm hoping someone can do is post a pic of the first few letter of there Vin on the frame and describe were it is.

Thanks

It should be on the right side of the neck. It should be a 9 digit vin and if its a FXS-80 it should start with a 7G. I'm almost positive any vin after 1970 should not start with two numbers. You sure the G just didn't look like a 6? It should also end with a J0.

Ok, so I'm correct in my thinking about the 7G. Also it does have the J0 on the end to say it's a 1980. I guess I will just have to look closer to the neck. Maybe scrape some paint.

Will still look at any pics anyone wants to share on this.

Not that it would sort out the frame and registration depending where you're located, but the vin should also be on the motor fyi.

Yes, it is and it does but the legal one is on the frame so that's the one I need to see. I know a person in the insurance racket that knows about registration so will be asking her some questions about options when I get out of camp also.

just a hint where your # might be as I also looked on the frame at the usual places and no luck . My '80 FLT had a silver tag on the right round tube down from the neck , could not make it all out --- found it stamped on the front of the neck behind headlamp

good luck as this was the AMF -- H-D change over era -- anything go's

Behind the head lamp? That may explain it.

How about other people with 1980 bikes? Was it behind the headlamp?

FLT frames are different from 4 speed frames
I already heard stories of FLTs and FLHTs where the owner couldn't find the VIN and it was hidden by the speedo/headlamp assembly
FXE should be on the right side of the neck, no other places as far as I know

Id it's supposed to be 7G and the registration says 76, it probably is a typo that needs to be addressed
In Europe it was a very common mistake when importing bikes through private importers, before there were HD dealers
DMV employees didn't pay much attention
