Default Oil Temperature

Took my '75 FXE for a cruise this evening, temps 78 degrees. Rolled into my neighborhood, up the drive, dropped the kick stand and turned it off.

Checked the oil temperature on the dipstick gauge and got a reading of 225. The gauge is reasonably accurate, based on its accuracy with ambient air temp readings when it was laying on the workbench prior to install.

Is 225 an OK temperature? I picked up a Lockhart oil cooler in case the 'Glide and Houston summers weren't compatible.

At 225 deg., if thats your only concern, you're wasting money and effort on a cooler IMHO. There's no need to reduce OT from 225. If you want to do "something", consider one of the modifications that has a dual benefit like a high flow permanent filter, filter relocation kit and / or using synthetic oil if you aren't already. These changes will passively reduce temps by 10 degrees or so and deliver extra convenience and engine benefits in the bargain. No electrical moving parts = less to go wrong too. If you're stopped and idling a lot, a fan powered cooler would be the ticket but simple concern over 225 deg.,,, nah !
