Default Beginner & just got my first motorcycle

Hey everybody, I'm 19 and from upstate NY, just got my permit a few weeks ago and just got my first bike yesterday. It's a 1980 Harley FLH with the shovelhead. I got it from a guy in my town who used to have a Harley repair shop back in the day so I'm confident that it has been taken care of and well maintained. But I have heard that shovelheads can have issues from time to time. What would those issues be? And do any of the veteran riders have any tips or suggestions for someone who is just starting out? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Nice bike. I would suggest looking into a riding school of sorts. They aren't that expensive and you'll learn a lot. Be safe 👍🏿

the factory service and parts book - and come hear and ask questions

you will need to want to work on it and you will learn the how too

a chapter of the AMCA might be close to you and the antique guys can be very helpful as to who does machine work - welding and paint

very cool young fellow - wish you lots of great times riding and wrenching

Congrats.....heck of a first bike. Don't beat on her too much.
You're in a beautiful area. I've been coming up there every spring to hunt turkeys for the past 20 years. Gorgeous country!!!!

Take it nice and easy until you feel comfortable. That's a heavy bike to start out with. At the risk of sounding like and oldster, treat her with respect. She's old enough to be your mother.

Nice looking scoot! Take good care of her, you don't know how many guys would kill for a bike like that. Don't leave that bike alone without locking it up! YD
