two different models of shovels - the flat side gets the original looking relay on the right as we do many restorations these days and it shows the correct using it

the one on the left is an evo relay readily available even in a parts store and is 30 amps

you are correct only one is needed

Default This is a darn good thread

I just rewired my 77 FXE in the modified version Rusty shared.
Darn good idea John, practical and makes good sense.
Not only does it remove run-on possibility but also the odds of fingers getting chewed up. Works better too!

One question. Does it matter which posts on the starter relay that the heavy gauge wire from the battery goes and the heavy gauge wire to the solenoid connect to? Are those posts interchangeable?

That little tidbit is the missing link to an electric start issue I've been chasing for years. On my bike, I had them backwards.

screw all that crap - no wires - two bigguns with the juice - one angled feeler gauge - one finger - BANG

while that works it does not correct the solenoid run on - until that happens to you its cool to have that

hmmm - I'll have to read through this post again - maybe the little hand operated lever would cure this?
