Default exhaust leak

on my new 79 flh I have a pretty bad exhaust leak on the rear cylinder, the pipe is a cyle shack 2-1

i replaced the gasket with these http://www.jpcycles.com/product/693-...SABEgLbSfD_BwE

and it still leaks the same. The pipe doesnt really seem to fit that great, it seems to be in a little bit of a bind. It sucks up tight at the bolt and has a small gap maybe you could fit a business card in opposite of the bolt.

this is the pipe i have for now. Are there better gaskets that may help me here or what do yall suggest. Also, Is it suppose to be bolts of is it suposse to be studs. Mine has bolts and one is noticably longer than the other. The long bolt will not thread all the way into the the other one. It bottoms outs.

If the pipe is in a bind it will definitely keep it from seating properly at the exhaust port. Secondly, originally there are bolts ( 5/16 )that attach the pipe to the cylinder head. Of course, if one is too long it will bottom out and not tighten the pipe properly.

Replace the bolt with a stud & nut and use a smear of Permatex Ultra Gray on both sides of the gasket and around inside the exhaust port, let sit overnight. No more leaks the pipes tend to not rattle loose as much and if you do lose a bolt the permatex has held the pipe on.
