Having a battery issue. Bike is a 79 FXE converted to FLH. Only had the bike 2 months, working through some issues. Noticed she doesn't hold a charge. Week or so maybe. Anyhow, pulled the battery and the parts store tested it says it's good and it looks new. Went to turn her over yesterday and battery was weak and wouldn't turn over. Battery was pretty warm to the touch. Trickle charged in about 2 hours to full again. I assume something is drawing power when sitting maybe?? Or is the stator shot? Or a smoked battery?? Any ideas guys? Thanks

 

Only you can answer your question here. Disconnect the battery leads when it sits and see if the battery goes dead then. If it does, put a new battery in. If not, you need to figure out what is draining it...

 

the voltage regulator has a diode in it that is supposed to stop a back drain, like a trunk light on in a car, and we see they leak voltage causing the battery to be dead after a few days

 

Diagnose your electrical system per the stickies in the ekectrical system.

BTW...a trickle charger shouldn't have the ability to fully charge a battery in 2 hours. Maybe your battery is really taken no a full charge.

 

Battery got any water in it ? or you have the AGM type ?
