This can't be original paint, can it?

Pipes stick up into the exhaust port a bit , common to see a bit of rust it's no issue. Top ends coming off for gaskets down to the cases that's a given, pain in the *** but not an overly complicated job.

Or is more lurking below the ugly paint? Sort of looks like a lot more is trying to peek through.

The nacelle isn't much better:

The engine is interesting. Just grime or problematic rust? If it's just gaskets and exhaust rusting, no worries. But rusting exhaust ports? No thanks. Thoughts?

That paint job was sombodys pride&joy at 1 time,
Iff'n the seller tries to make that a selling point tell him to stuff it in his ***,

Now if you can get it for a decent price,
+ not knowing your mechanical knowledge&background and how far you are willing to go,

The rust&grime you can take care of while ya got it apart,

Peeling paint around the gas hole is where the fumes&liquid gas got under the paint,
Hence the rust from raw metal exposed,
Look inside the tank to see if they coated it&if it is delaminating,
That's a can o worms in its self,

As far as rusting exhaust ports,
Aluminum don't rust,
Concern with the ports is make sure the studs are not stripped out,

There's more but that's all I can think of for now as I've been drinkin,

Turns out that bike was a mess. Gas tank inside was totally rusty. Not just in spots, but the whole thing. It was leaking all over, too. And would need new paint. This one would take a lot to bring back. And for $3800, no way. I found an FXS in much better shape for 3 grand instead. Thanks for the conversation!

Saw that bike also. As far as the paint, never really understood why it is popular but then I don't like the the flat paint jobs either. I guess I'm old.

I think the bike would be a fun project for the right price.

That's what I was thinking. But since it's at a dealer it's going to be hard to get it for a reasonable price. That thing needs a total rebuild with a lot of new parts. And new paint, of course.
