Handlebar emergency flasher question
Pics below,
Ok, when I hook my meter to the turn signal wire and power wire I get continuity when I push the turn signal button. All good there.
Look at the emergency flasher icon and arrow on the side of the switch. My question is: how do you turn on the flashers?
It looks like the arrow is telling me to push out on the switch, which I can do. This sort of locks the switch in the out position. But when I test for continuity with the switch in that position, there is no continuity.
I emailed JP cycle back-and-forth A few times, and their answer was that when you push both sides, that turns the flashers on. I'm not sure if they meant push in or lock the switch out.
Anybody know the answer to this?
If you look closely, you'll see an arrow pointing left on the face of the switch. On the side is another arrow pointing toward the rider and a + sign and the emergency icon.

Try holding both right & left turn signal switches in and that should activate the emergency (4-way) flashers. To shut the flashers off, hold both turn signal switches in again. If I recall correctly the ignition must be ON to activate / deactivate the flashers however the flashers will flash with the ignition switch OFF

Yeah... that's my concern. This is a 72 FLH. I updated the controls. So do I need a regular type flasher like a Wagner 522 (yeah, those work on old Harleys) or a late style flasher? I guess I need to look into this. Thanks for the replies, I'm getting it figured out.

D slat: there's a picture of the left control in the first post. The right side has the usual: right turn button; starter button; off/run switch and inside the control there is a button which is in the off position when depressed (brake lever out) for the brake lights...pretty normal.
The bike is a 72 FLH but I am using a 73 wiring diagram because I could only get a front terminal board for a 73. So I have to use the 73 schematic. The 72 terminal board is different. I will shoot a pic of that too and post below.
By "updated controls" I mean: http://www.jpcycles.com/product/503-333
You don't need the whole schematic.

the controls you bought and have on the bike now used an electronic flasher that set the flasher on and you let the button go, it blinks while you wait for a traffic light and goes off by its self or making a turn while driving the goes off its pre timed to do that
the 4 ways were set by pushing both left and right side buttons at the same time as the electronic control then set everything on till you press them again to un set the lights
1970s blinkers if you did not hold the button in it does not blink and the 4 ways was on a toggle switch you see in the wire diagram
you can get an electronic control badlands comes to mind that does all the bells and of a later machine controls like you now have - its a 2 fer to get the later not just the switches
