Default 1978 Electra glide oil tank

Want to pull oil tank to replace lines and clean up oil from a leak from oil line attached to bottom of tank. Will removing rear fender give me enough clearance to remove tank. I already have seat and battery removed and tray unbolted did not want to disconnect electrical from tray.

Can't get it out through the space provided by removing the rear fender. Either needs to come out from the left or right side of the bike. Easiest way is from the right which means you need to disconnect the electrical stuff and get the tray out of the way. Take pictures before doing so and tag/number stuff so you know where it goes (if you don't have a service manual).

Need to remove the bracket attached to the starter motor that supports the left side of the tank and also the bracket that supports the right side. There is a nut on the left side of the bike that supports the bracket on that side. And depending how old the bike is you might consider replacing the rubber supports (three of them; two on the right side and one on the left side.)

Thanks thats what I figured I have everthing unbolted on tank and tray. Was hoping to not have to disconnect electrical, thought maybe removing the fender would give enough room. Thanks for the help and I will differently mark and take pics....good advice!!

Also take note of how your oil lines are connected and routed. It is a pretty tight squeeze to get the oil lines all bunched and pushed together to make sure they do not come into contact with your rear exhaust pipe.

Thanks I have marked them it has old steel braided on not sure if I will go with that same set up or heat rated rubber. Next project is to seal off primary with vent line have you ever done this before? I have found a few articles with good info and diagrams.

Yes I have. Think I posted a couple of pics that shows how to seal your primary. They were taken from another forum and done by a guy named Hawg Ryder. If you don't have those let me know and I will post them up.
