82 wide glide bobber build
 

I picked up this FXWG in the summer with some period mods and rode it around thinking about what to do with it. The thing is its not ultra-collectible nor is it rare and its not mint or stock and the riding experience leaves something to be desired - but its cool and the shovelhead engine idle is intoxicating as we know. I've always liked the bobber look so I decided to go that route without modifying the frame in any way and keeping all of the left over parts in the event I sell it or whatever, you just never know. I tossed around the idea of a wide rear wheel but still want spoked rims but struggled with keeping the narrow wheel to stay traditional so Im sticking with the narrow front and rear wheels. Im a purist (when modifying cars) if that makes sense. A purist in the sense that I want to stick to an era or an approach that adheres to tradition so Im going to do my best to do this bike justice!

a bolt on modded machine is a personal touch - you can take it to your pocket is exhausted and that's fine, some times a little bracket welding is in the mix just don't get crazy - food for thought

I like this tank the most because it exposes the engine but no idea what its from or a one-off, too narrow to be a lifted stock tank. I like the entire bike to be honest.

its a knuckle tank a real one is in the many thousands of dollars if they are real, the tanks are worth more then the bike by far

BUT they do make aftermarket sets china ones are well you already know - my guess they are re set higher and I do not se a dash so its anyone's guess what's going on

I believe there's a console of some sort on the white bike now that I look closer. Its obscured in the pic but looks like a black console or something there in the middle. Either way I looked on line at original Knuckle tanks and I see what you mean by being expensive! I like the lowbrow customs tanks as a starting point that maybe I can graft onto but for now Ill keep looking.

Looks like you have 5 gallons tanks on your bike. Stock HD 3.5 gallon tanks for a Shovel will narrow up the look a lot with no real effort. Tons of them on the Bay, really narrow up the bike.

Correct, 5 gallon tanks. Is there a particular model and year that had the smaller tanks? Narrowing it is exactly what I’m looking to do. Thank you

Not sure for your year, other here may know. For my bike in 1970 you could order it with 3.5 or 5 gallons.

Still undecided on a tank, could end up making one to get what I need.

Took a few more parts off today, stock tanks lifted won't cut it. Wondering about a 4" wide rear rim vs the 16x3 it currently has.
