Default 64 Pan tank emblems on 68 tanks???

I have a set of 68 shovelhead tanks and want to put 64 emblems on them. Are the screw holes the same distance apart? The 68 tanks are original and have the emblem mounts.

Thanks for the reply. I know the emblems on the 64's are longer however if the screw holes are the same distance apart they will mount up. My question is are the screw holes the same distance apart?

Just measure screw head to screw head... or hole to hole..
Unless of course you ain't gots the '64 emblems... that may present a Problem.. gonna have to have someone get you a measurement... Not Me... only Shovels around here..

I have the tanks but that's it. No emblems. I have my eye on a couple sets of 68 and 64 emblems and have asked the sellers to give me the distance between the holes and am awaiting replies. I'll let you know what I find as this info may be useful to someone else looking to do the same.

I have '65 tanks on my 1970 FLH. I changed to correct '70 badges, the screw holes are in the correct place and they bolt right up. BUT the '65 tanks back plate welded to the tank is in the shape of the '65 badges so they hang out a little in the front and back. You wold not notice if I didn't tell you. I have the '65 badges on '70 tanks hanging on the wall right now, again direct bolt on.

Since you are going in the other direction by year, I think you will be fine.

I put this on HTT as well:

I put a set of 65 (same as 64) on a 67 (same as 68) tanks, so I think you'd be good to go.

Yep you are correct as the distance between the holes are the same. FYI: I was looking at a few on ebay however these are still available from H-D so I ordered a set from my local dealer for 38 bucks vs. 90 or more from hustlers on ebay.

The badges currently sold at the dealership are made in Taiwan, says it right on the package. Would not be considered correct from a antique perspective, but they will be nice and shiny.

I'm not goin for original correct, numbers matching and all that. I had way more fun when I didn't know the difference and with the idiotic prices of original parts I am happy with good quality aftermarket as I am just a regular workin man. I'll leave the folks with deep pockets to chase after the original stuff do that so they can just put it on a shelf and worship it while I'm out ridin. That said, I will buy original if it is within reason but I ain't loosin sleep over it.
