Super E on Shovelhead

Super E on Shovelhead
I see lots of shovels with Super E carbs on them. My 1980 FXS is one of them. I'm just starting the tear down of the bike and thought I'd start with something straight forward, like rebuilding the carb. I know my 1980 is a single wire throttle bike - already have the parts to make it a 1981-like dual cable setup.
In starting to take the carb off the bike, I wanted to have the installation instructions handy, for reference. But I can't find any for this engine. Every set of instructions I find on line are for "S&S Super E and G Series "Shorty" Performance Carburetors for 1984-'99 Harley-Davidson® Big Twin and 1986-03 Sportster® Models". So, they are for Evo's and Sportsters. I did find a video on S&S' YouTube channel that shows how to do this. Just looking for something printed. Any thoughts?

its the same thing just the jetting is a little different
low speed it might be a 295 or a 31 - main jet from 68 to 74 depends on lots of things - if it runs real good the way it is just kit and clean it and re assemble with all new o rings and gaskets - jot down whats in it now
the idle mix just count how many in before you remove it and the acc pump as well turn it how many in and keep it for reference

You are correct! Thanks. I have that and will be using it when I get to tuning. I was looking for install/deinstall info. They also have a video on tuning. Best thing I’ve found is the video on S&S’ site for installing on a shovel. That should work for me.

Pulled the file for my '79 and looked at the paperwork for the super E. It covers pan, shovel and evo installations. What you want is S&S instruction sheet No. 400
I can scan and send what I have but I found an electronic copy here

I especially like the chart in your file, showing which model carb body for which bike. Can't wait to get back to the bike and see if I have the right one for my scoot! (I love this ... figuring out what someone else has done before me!).

Yup. My comment was part serious and part sarcasm. But that's the attitude I have to take. I've had a few WTF moments so far. Being a newbie to rebuilding a shovel, I'm trying to withhold judgement, figuring whomever went before me might have known what they were doing. But not always! Which is why i want to so I know what it's SUPPOSED to be, before I change anything.
