If those pipes fit your 78 FXE, they should fit my 80 FXS. The parts manual says both models use the same exhaust pipes. Did you ever try them out? Did they mate the stock muffler? How do they sound? I love the look but I’ve heard mixed results on the sound. Much easier to tune than drag pipes, however.

Anything is Better than drag pipes.. for Tuning anyway.. If it was about "sound" we would all ride "Iron" Harleys anyway!!
The Stock Muffler is Very Quiet indeed tho.. some folks modified the Muff...
sounds better but... now Not O.E. and Thus not worth what ya just paid for it.. Only thing I dislike about the system [besides it is Very Quiet] is it is Capital H, Heavy!!!
I will Probably use one On the next Resto... None "Look" like it... just like the SuperGlide Tank!!!
Plus is If you go thru the Work to make a Quiet, well tuned Engine... It will be Obvious... Which also tells on ya if it is Noisy and Un-tuned!!!

i have never installed them on my bike. I’ve got a ‘78 fxs. Had the drag pipes on it for years, but doing a restoration and wanted to get it back to stock look. I lucked out bout a year or so ago and found a brand new NOS header pipe and muffler for it. The extra one (pictured) I picked it up on ebay before finding the NOS one. Dont know how it sounds though.

I am cleaning out my father-in-law's shop and i have a used Harley exhaust 65353-78. It is not the prettiest.
Let me know if you have an interest. And at what price?

There are quite a few parts that I am listing on ebay, but if there is a better forum for Harley parts let me know.
Thanks

I hated that pipe! It was too quiet,so I drilled a hole inside the end of it,and it sounded like ****. Replaced it with some drag pipes.. Now 41 years have gone by,and to me that set up looks neat. And guys are trying to find them!
