We had north address, 40 hwy was no mans land and Monument street was deep indian country. Survival skills learned growing up there have served me well over the years. Still miss the food in that town but not much else, my brothers are still there. They migrated up toward Aberdeen.

 

That area (Orleans, Monument) is still rough. Not as bad as the West side, but not a place you want to hang out. But I suppose that's not so different from other older, East Coast cities. Some growth, some gentrification and some rougher areas.
