Without Your Vin, and a Picture...Can't tell anything.....Mine is a 71 FX frame and chassis, but no Boat tail in sight.

But I believe they can be either or...The full fenders are usually denoting a FLH model, and the boat tail is usually a FX? I not 100% on that. Your Vin will tell you what the frame started life as. The owner can turn it into any kind of mix and match he sees fit.....

I did Not know you could get a non Boat tail FX in '71... certainly in '72 both were available..

I do know that Victor could have started out as anything, I did a full Title search on him and it said it was originally titled as an FX....not that means a hill of Beans. But I'm stickin to it.

I believe the “2C” vin start is the indication with a “1” at the end. All 71’s were boattails. 72 was a mixture...remaining boattails and sportster fenders. I have a 71 seat i’d Sell but it’s a little rough...needs a total resto. I paid $125, i’ll Take $90 + shipping. The boattails are readily available on eBay or at most swap meets. Not cheap. Do NOT forget, there is also a sub fender you need. That is actually harder to find but do appear on eBay every so often. I think one can be fabled from the sportster fender. Boattail is iconic. Only way to go in my opinion...

...the seats and subfenders are the hardest to find. Also, do not get confused between an FX Boattail and an XL Boattail. They are NOT interchangeable.
