That sucks, I wish I had a good suggestion.
But I have a question for you, do you know which kicker arm you have on the bike? Is it a stock arm chromed or an aftermarket with the extra "offset"? Getting ready to install a kicker on my '70 and I want to keep the chrome cover under the battery, but it looks like a no-go with the stock arm.

I am going to try this adapter if the Super B has the same bolt pattern as the Super E.....does anyone have this information in their data banks?

and like I said... ya need about a 1/4 inch of spacer...like that one appears to be at least..
I think I have some UHMW around here..... bet it will make an adapter...

Here is the OEM backplate with the super B gasket over the CV gasket that fits the backplate. Big difference....gotta think about this one.
If I can figure out how to convert the super b bolt pattern to a CV bolt pattern, may go with Hammer Performance backplate, K&N, and OEM cover and insert for better air flow. OEM backplate is just too restrictive/enclosed for my liking.
Here is my OEM cover and trim...pretty good shape.
