Default Generator shovel front fork upgrade

Does anyone know if I can fit late model 41mm fork tubes and dampeners into early drum brake sliders? Early stuff is getting hard to get and expensive when you can find it, so if I could fit late model stuff it would be cheaper and an improvement...... maybe???

no it does not

you can have new tubes and bushings installed then a seal kit - but use 30 weight lawn mower oil in that fork it will ride better then the newer fork

Ok, thanks, the reason I asked is because here in Australia spares are few and far between and importing incurs ridiculous postage costs. A set of tubes here is upwards of 500 dollars.

Keep your stock trees, use modern 41 mm tubes and everything else. It should work just fine. What you can't do as John stated is re-use your tubes and lower legs, not compatible. But if you change it all, you can make it work. Plus you can then throw on a modern disc brake. To keep it real easy, also score yourself a new wheel that is the same year as the rest of your components. You will also need to change the front master cylinder. The Bay is your friend, good luck.

Can you get the legs rebuilt ?

When you decide to put the front end back together, you might wanna check out adjusting the front brake in the,
Harley Davidson, service manual, Electra Glide, 1959 to 1969, page 2G-1
